My CTE Story ~ Agriculture

Career and Technical Education includes the 16 different career pathways. This video highlights the agriculture programs available in SC high schools. These three FMSD Agriculture Teachers have different areas of expertise so some classes, such as Natural Resources and Pre-Veterinary Science, require students to shutter or transport themselves to and from their home school

Catawba Riverkeeper has an annual Carolina Eco Innovators Scholarship Competition open to high school students within the Catawba River basin. Submission deadline 1/31/23. High school students are invited to submit an idea they have to help solve an environmental problem of their choosing. Submissions range from ideas on ways to reduce pollution/trash to proposed solutions to climate change issues and more. The possibilities are endless!

Applicants submit a short essay and video explaining their idea and how it would work to solve the issue they’ve chosen to focus on. The most creative and innovative submissions will be chosen as finalists. The finalists will receive mentorship from one of the participating partners and prepare a presentation for the final event in March at our headquarters in McAdenville, NC. All our mentors are from local environmental nonprofits and are assigned to provide their expertise and assist with the development of the student’s idea into a final presentation. At the event they present ‘Shark Tank’ style to our panel of judges, explaining why their idea is the best and most innovative.

Grand prize is in $4,000 scholarship monies, 2nd place is $2,000,  3rd place is $1,000, and there is an audience vote that a winner will receive $500 from.
