Music Production 7/8/9 - Individual Project Curriculum Design - Brockway

Music Production 7/8/9 Curriculum Design

Glee in Grades 7, 8, and 9 is divided into four terms over the course of the school year (September - November, November - January, February - April, April - June). Students are welcome to be a part of Glee for as many or as few terms as they wish (if there is space). Due to the possibility of our cohorts changing between terms, the structure of the course may also change depending on the makeup of the class. Below is an example of the progression through Grade 7, 8, and 9 Glee for students who choose our Music Production stream, but this is adaptable based on how many terms students choose to return to Glee within a single school year.

General Music 10/20/30 Semester Plan

Glee (or "General Music") in Grades 10, 11, and 12 is offered during Semester 2 (February to June), and is a class that combines all three grade levels. Students will work through the theory requirements specific to their grade level, but all performance requirements and module work will be completed at one unified level through the cohort. Each year we have the freedom to change which of the three elective modules we will cover in the course, and this is decided based on student interest. Possible modules include Music Technology, Composition, Popular Music, World Music, Careers in Music, Western Music History, and Jazz History.

Assessment and Evaluation

Classes at all grade levels will perform weekly in-class (or students opting for the Music Production stream will complete weekly assignments.) All performances and projects in Grades 7-9 are formative, while some in Grades 10-12 will become summative.

Performance Assessment (formative or summative) * to be co-constructed *

This rubric will be used to assess weekly in-class performances, or could also be used as reflection for learners to assess possible areas for growth. The rubric will illustrate three stages of developement: Knowledge (70-79%), Connections (80-89%), and Value and Transfer (90-100%). All other criteria will be co-constructed and agreed upon as a class.

Musician Growth Reflection (formative assessment)

This monthly reflection allows students to set goals with their individual musical development, and reflect on the efficiency and efficacy of their practice routines. It also acts as a check-in opportunity to identify any additional supports that may aid in their development.
