We offer Band classes for Grades 7-12 students at McTavish. In the 2023/2024 school year, 125 students were enrolled in Band across all grades!

Each year our Band students have the opportunity to perform locally in various contexts including our annual Winter and Year End Concerts (held at the school), the McTavish Remembrance Day Assembly, and the Oilsands Rotary Music Festival.

Students will also have the opportunity to travel if they choose. In the past our Bands have performed in Whistler (2023), New York City (2019), Ottawa (2017), Montreal (2017), Disneyland (2013 and 2015), Calgary (2018), Edmonton (2014, 2016, and 2018), and Red Deer (2022 and 2024). Each trip is planned around a Music Festival where our musicians will participate in clinics, adjudication, and performances. 

In the 2024/2025 school year our High School Band and Show Choir will be travelling to perform in the United Kingdom! Students will travel through Scotland and England on a performance tour and will participate in many music-related learning opportunities along the way. 

Jazz Band is open to students in all grades, and happens every Monday after school from 3:30 - 5:00pm! Students in Jazz Band will have the opportunity to perform in concerts, pep rallies, fundraisers, and other local events.

Students in high school can earn credits for their participation in Jazz Band through enrolling in Instrumental Jazz 15/25/35.
