Parent Resources

Fort Madison Music Boosters

The FM Music Boosters meet on the 2nd Thursday of the month at 6:00 in the high school band room. All parents and guardians are highly encouraged to come join these wonderful and dedicated volunteers in order to perpetuate the growth and continued success of our music ensembles. Meetings are consistently pleasingly succinct and productive. We value and need your insight, experience, and a little bit of legwork to support our flourishing music program. Come join us to be a part of it!

It will be very important for every individual to contribute to our fundraising efforts, as there are plenty of things to be done to help propel our Music Department forward. Additionally, we will be going on a trip next year, and it is my goal that everyone in the program be able to join us. Through these fundraising events, students and families can lighten the financial burden of these trips, if not eliminate it completely by consistently taking advantage of these opportunities.

Stop "Defending" Music Education - While benefits to being involved in music are vast and plenty, many of these do not make effective arguments for why it is a necessary part of our education experience. This excellent article makes the case to make music for the sake of music. "Music does not need to make excuses for itself, as if it had no intrinsic worth. It does not have to dress itself up in test-taking robes or mathematical masks. It has deep, powerful human value, and all of us who love it should be saying so, over and over and over again. "
