Concert Band

General Information

The Concert Band is comprised of students in grades 9-12 who wish to continue their development of instrumental skills in the concert band idiom. Repertoire for the ensemble is selected to support the continuation of skills learned at the Middle School. The Concert Band performs through the winter and spring seasons at the Winter Concert, Dinner Theater, All School Band Night, Awards Concert, and the IHSMA Large Group Contest. Members of the Concert Band are also required to participate in the Fort Madison High School Pep Band.

Membership

Membership in the Concert Band is open to all students who play band instruments in grades 9-12. These students are to be enrolled in the class, which meets third block through the second and third trimester.

Rehearsal Expectations

Students should be in their seats and ready to go three minutes after the bell rings so that we can have an efficient and rewarding rehearsal. Specific rehearsal procedures can be found in the Band Handbook. In addition to rehearsal time, students are also expected to practice independently outside of class. This can be done at home, or during free periods of the school day. For tips on practicing, check out the musicianship page of this website.
