Hopefully, you have fond memories of your elementary school teacher(s) introducing you to the grammatical foundation of English: the eight basic parts of speech.
If you feel like you never learned grammar as well as you should have, know that you are in good company and we'll get that taken care of today!
Before we delve into reviewing (or learning, or re-learning) parts of speech, it's important to understand that knowing and understanding these grammar basics is more than just academic - it's not something
you need to know purely to pass a test in school (you know, like that y=mx+b stuff)! Instead, by mastering your understanding of the eight basic parts of speech you'll be able to easily identify grammatical issues in writing and drastically improve your own writing. And just in case that's not reason enough for you, it will be on the test (both in this class and on standardized tests)!
I can't think of a better way to learn basic grammar than from a mildly annoying rap song targeted at elementary students, can you?
On that note, let's watch Jack Hartmann's "8 Parts of Speech," which (if nothing else) will get a clever tune stuck in your head.
You're welcome :)
