Libraries are a place for books, information, and reading, but soon that might change. Over the last few years, library technology has become more and more advanced and eco-friendly. Los Angeles Central Library, for example, provides a space called the Octavia Lab, which features resources like 3D printers, camera studios, computers, recording studios for podcasts, and even DJ booths. From this, it’s easy to see how libraries can become more than just repositories of knowledge, but also a free workspace. Tourism can also be a part of libraries, as seen in libraries like the Starfield Library in South Korea or the Helsinki Oodi Library in Finland. Libraries are also versatile socialization areas, leading to more possible development in the future. As technology advances, there will be a plethora of different functions for libraries and public spaces to capitalize on.
