Rainy days are happening more often in Los Angeles than you would think. On average it rains for about 36 days year-round in Los Angeles. Although rainfall is needed in Los Angeles, once it rains, it floods the whole area. Luckily, some channels help the water flow to the Pacific Ocean. For example, the Los Angeles River is encased in concrete so that when it rains, it doesn't overflow. We barely have a system to catch rainwater and filter it into safe drinking water. 95% of the stormwater that Los Angeles receives either travels down into the Pacific Ocean or gets wasted; the remaining 5% goes to habitats, large bodies of water, and dams. Over the years, we have managed to stop the flooding problem, but now society needs to create a new way to conserve the water that Los Angeles desperately needs.
