Yes! We have a morning and afternoon break. If you like you may send your child with a snack and they can eat it during these times. We please ask for it to not be candy and snacks are not to be shared with others.
First grade learns through a lot of hands on activities within the classroom. Our books are also class sets and remain in the room. If you are ever wondering what we're working on in the classroom be sure to check out the refrigerator copy that comes home on Monday or feel free to reach out to your child's teacher.
Absolutely! We actually prefer it because it cuts down on the amount of time students spend waiting at the water fountain. Please make sure their water bottle actually closes and only water is being sent. Spills are pretty inevitable in the classroom full of six and seven year olds and it is a major disruption to our day when we have to call the janitor to come clean a sugary drink out of the carpet.
We take two exciting field trips each year that connect to what we’re learning in the classroom and give students hands-on experiences they'll always remember.
In the fall, we visit the Fort Wayne Children’s Zoo, where students get to explore animal habitats and learn about wildlife from all around the world.
In the spring, we celebrate Earth Day by taking a trip to the Alexandria Movie Theater to watch The Lorax. After the movie, we enjoy a fun afternoon at the park with our classmates.
While not an official trip, we also take part in a large Earth Day celebration held at the school. This event is led by the high school biology class and includes fun, educational stations focused on taking care of our planet. It’s one of the highlights of our spring season.
