Experiential Learning Trips

Characteristics of Experiential Learning: engage with learners in direct experience and focused reflection in order to increase knowledge, develop skills and clarify values. Facilitated and guided practice, reflection and evaluation are all essential components of this transformative method of learning

FALA High School Students have opportunities to engage in service on a variety of Experiential Learning Trips:

March 2020: NYC/Brooklyn. Levin, Hamill & Henes. We spent an afternoon building a trail and composting with the Gowanas Canal Conservancy 

November 2019: Cori Wall's hometown of Paradise suffered through a tremendous loss as a-wildfire burned in 2018. Cori &  Dance students helped to rebuild as well as share dance with locals as a  Learning-Service Trip. The Reflection was a dance piece performed at Winter Escapades 2019.

March 2017: Senora Swartz's Spanish Classes travel to Costa Rica planting Coffee trees 

April 2017: Mr. Kuluris's Social Studies Classes partner with Grand Canyon Trust and camped for 3 days in the woods and during the days students surveyed springs for the Forest Service to use for spring restoration. And have worked at the North Rim. 

2007- present: Grand Canyon Youth. Students at FALA can participate in school or summer programs to do river trips based in Science & Service.

March 2018: Levin & Henes art & theater trips designate an afternoon in Chicago/ NYC to volunteer at Food Pantry on the South Side of Chicago with the Chosen Tabernacle Ministry 

December 2016& 2017: Ms. Henes organized an experiential learning trip to El Sauce, Nicaragua in Central America, students lived with host families, built a house for a family with 4Walls,  and created an art camp for children with Amigos en Action.  We meet our One New Education scholarship girls. 

2011- Present: Here are photos of our  9th annual Experiential Learning trip to the Border/Mexico. We partner with Rancho Feliz to build homes in MexicoStudents with No More Deaths doing humanitarian aid and leave water, food, and blankets for migrants crossing the Border, as well as various service projects in Agua Prieta, Mexico. February 2019 Xela, Guatemala: Students met One New Education girls. Lived with host families, Mayan Arts & Culture, murals, art projects, exchanges. (Henes)
