Families in Transition provides advocacy, emergency shelter and support services to victims of Sexual Assault. Attacks such as rape or attempted rape, as well as any unwanted sexual contact or threats. Usually a sexual assault occurs when someone touches any part of another person's body in a sexual way, even through clothes, without that person's consent.

•Males and Transgender people are victims of sexual violence as well
•Individuals are referred to differently based upon professional circumstances
•2,795 reported cases of sexual assault, rape or other sex related crimes in Arkansas in 2020
•The national average shows that only 1 in every 5 sexual assaults are ever reported to police.
•Arkansas’ Sexual Violence Rate is 73.5 assaults per every 100,000 people.
•Out of every 1,000 sexual assaults reported 97.5% of perpetrators will walk free.
•Every 68 seconds an American is sexually assaulted
•1 out of 6 American women have been the victim of attempted or completed rape in her lifetime
•8 out of 10 Rapes are committed by someone known to the victim
•The majority of Sexual Assault Victims are under the age of 30
What is Rape?
Although specific states may have slightly different definitions, the U.S. Department of Justice provides the following:
•Rape is the crime of forcibly engaging in sexual intercourse with a person who has not consented. Rape includes using psychological coercion and/or physical force. Forced sexual intercourse means vaginal, anal or oral penetration by the offender(s). This category includes incidents where the penetration is from a foreign object such as a bottle. This definition includes attempted rapes, male and female victims, and heterosexual and homosexual rape.
What is Sexual Assault?
The U.S. Department of Justice defines sexual assault as:
•Sexual assault includes a wide range of victimizations, distinct from rape or attempted rape. These crimes include completed or attempted attacks generally involving unwanted sexual contact between the victim and offender. Sexual assaults may or may not involve force and include such things as grabbing or fondling. Sexual assault also includes verbal threats.
