Patty Majors

This week’s Educator is Patty Majors, an intervention specialist at Chamberlin Hill. Majors grew up in Connecticut and attended school at Boston College where she received her BA in Elementary and Moderate Special Needs Education. She continued her education at Lesley College where she obtained her Masters in Computers and Technology.

When asked what it was that drew her to education Majors replied, “The desire to make a difference in a child’s life.” Within her 18 year career she has done just that. Currently Majors is involved in the Instructional Incubator program and has received a Community Foundation Grant. She states, “There are two parts to this project currently. Students will share their writings with an authentic audience, The Heights at Birchaven Village (an independent living community), and then have a follow-up discussion.” For the second part students work with younger students at Marilyn’s Lifelong Learning Preschool and the Rehabilitation Center at Birchaven Village. “The books they are sharing relate to the 7 Habits and the students will be drawing those connections,” Majors stated.

Her duties do not stop at the doors of the school. She is a member of the Chamberlin Hill RTI team (Response to Intervention), a group of educators that work as a sounding board to help direct instruction for those students that may be struggling. As a member of the Ignite team she is helping to drive the use of technology within the district. Plus she is starting a Robotics Leadership Team using Edison robots.

Majors has been married to Pat for 26 years. They have two sons. Samuel who is a junior in college and Alexander who is a sophomore in college.
