Matt Bower

Jefferson and Chamberlin Hill have the honor of hosting this week’s Educator of the Week Matt Bower. As an Art Specialist Bower has the opportunity to help students create pieces of art with materials that many have never had the opportunity to use. “I have the best job in the world,” Brower shared.

As an undergraduate Bower focused on art receiving his degree in Art Education from Bowling Green State University. He continued his education at the University of Findlay obtaining a Masters in Education with an emphasis in Children’s Literature. Both degrees serve him well as an art educator for Findlay City Schools but also at the Mazza Museum at the University of Findlay where he provides art education opportunities for children and adults.

Bowers responsibilities do not stop at the classroom door or at the Mazza Museum. He is the Department Chair for the elementary art specialists. He is also involved in the Findlay Autism Team, a member of the building leadership team at Jefferson, and plays a large role in the Veteran’s day assembly held at Chamberlin. He states that, “I’m also busy at both my schools with creating temporary and permanent art displays throughout the year.”

When asked to share what helps to define him as an educator Bower replied,” Often, children that may be struggling in other areas can open up and really shine in the art space. By learning about others through their artwork, we create empathy and understanding making the world a more beautiful place.”

Outside of school Bower enjoys creating his own artwork, reading and spending time with family, friends and their children. He particularly loves traveling, visiting museums and galleries and people watching along the way.
