Prompt: Everyone has a favorite Bible story. Write a summary of your favorite Bible story and tell why it is your favorite.
Canaan Altomare - David and Goliath
David and Goliath is my favorite story because it makes me feel like I can do anything. This story takes place on a battlefield. Goliath is a Philistine and David is an Israelite. David is just a little boy, about ten years old, and he was a shepherd. The Philistines were taunting the Israelites. When David ran over to all the commotion, he said he wanted to fight Goliath. When Goliath saw David, he laughed at him. David went to a river bed and grabbed five smooth stones. Then he put one in his slingshot and aimed for Goliath's head. David wins and the Philistines run away. Everyone of the Israelites cheered for David and they had a party.
Graham Becker - Creation
My favorite Bible story is the creation of the world. In the beginning, there was no earth and no light, just the void. On the first day, God said, “Let there be light.” God separated the light and darkness. He called the light day and the dark night. On the second day, God separated the sky and the seas. On the third day, God added dry land above the waters. He called the waters sea and the land earth. It grew trees and veggies on the dry land. On the fourth day, God made the moon, stars, and the sun. On the fifth day, God made fish and birds. On the sixth day, God made livestock animals, like cows, and everything that creeps, like all the bugs. On the seventh day, He rested. I like this story because it reminds me of God's creation all around us.
Naomi Byers - Jesus Talks to the Samaritan Woman
One of my favorite bible verses is Jesus talks to the Samaritan woman. I like this bible verse because that is how the people of Samaria believed in Jesus. Jesus was going to Galilee and had to pass through Samaria and met a Samaritan woman at the well and Jesus said “Give me a drink” The woman asked “Why are you asking me for a drink? You are a Jew and I am a Samaritan.” Jesus answered “If you knew who I was you would ask me for living water and you would never thirst again.” Jesus said The woman wanted the water so she wouldn't have to go to the well. The woman said “l know the messiah is coming.” Jesus answer “I‘m he.Go and get your husband” I don’t have a husband” You’re right, you have five husbands and you’re not married to the man you are living with right now” Jesus answered The woman ran into the town and said to the people “There is a man that told me everything I did could this possible be the messiah.” and that is how the people of Samaria believed.
Preston Damsgaard - Jesus’ Birth
I like this Bible story because it is about Jesus' birth. Mary and Joseph were two ordinary people. Mary and Joseph were going to be married. An angel came to Mary and told her she was chosen to be the earthly mother of the savior. The angel also told Mary to name him Jesus. They had to set off to Bethlehem because Joseph was born there and they had to pay taxes where the man was born. She had to ride on a donkey while Joseph walked. Once they got to Bethlehem, it was night and Mary was going to have Jesus soon but there was no room in the inn. One of the inn owners had a barn, so they stayed in there. Jesus was born in a manger with all the animals. 2 years later, the wise men came. It took so long because there was a king who was trying to kill Jesus, but he never did. I like this Bible story because it means the Messiah has come.
Anna Dierkes - The Flood
God said to Noah that He was going to flood the earth. So Noah had to build an ark. If you don’t know what an ark is, it is a giant boat. Noah is a person that listens to God. In fact, he is the only person that listened to God. It took Noah a long time to build the Ark. Noah was in the Ark with his family and two of every kind of animal for forty days and forty nights. After the flood, God put a rainbow in the sky as a symbol that he would never flood the earth again. This is my favorite Bible story because I love telling about the animals and how God kept his promise that he would never flood the earth again.
Augie Flunker - Noah’s Ark
Noah and his family were some of the only Christians at the time. God said to Noah, “The world is corrupt and you must build an ark.” It would be three hundred cubits long and thirty cubits tall. When the ark was done, people thought they were crazy. Finally, the flood hit. It rained for forty days and forty nights. They sent a dove and it came back with nothing. After a couple more tries, it came back with an olive branch. It finally found land! I like this story because it reminds me that when you’re in a bad time, there is still hope.
Colton Gabrielson - Jesus Calms the Storm
My favorite Bible story is when Jesus said to his disciples “let’s go to the other side of the lake”. When they were almost there, Jesus fell asleep. A little bit later, a storm came and the disciples freaked out. Then they woke up Jesus and He said “do you not believe in me?” The disciples said to themselves “even the waves obey Him.” I chose this story because it reminds me to never be afraid when God’s on your side.
Liam Garcia - Feeding 5000
My favorite Bible story is Jesus feeding 5,000 people. Jesus was talking to a big group of people. Then, they all got hungry. Jesus asked if anyone had any food. A boy came and said “I have 5 loaves of bread and 2 fish.” Jesus said “Everyone can have as much bread and fish as they want.” There were lots of leftovers. I like this story because I like that 5 loaves of bread and 2 fish can be enough food to feed 5,000 men, including their families too!
Dallas Graves - Daniel in the Lion’s Den
My favorite Bible story is Daniel in the lion’s den. A long long time ago, three men told the king that people should not pray to any other god except him. Daniel heard this, then he ran home and prayed to God. The three men caught him praying to God. They told the king what they had seen. The three men threw him in the lion's den. The next morning, the king went to the den. The king asked Daniel if he was alright. Daniel said an angel had shut the lion's mouths. The king threw the three men in the lion's den. Daniel’s God was able to save him by shutting the lion's mouths. I like this story because God can help you in scary times.
Georgia Kison - Nativity
My favorite Bible story is Jesus’ birth. Mary and Joseph were just ordinary people. One day while they were sleeping, God sent an angel to their house and woke up Mary. The angel told her that she will be pregnant with the savior of the world and He will be named Jesus. In the morning, Mary told Joseph that she was pregnant with the savior and He will be named Jesus. Mary and Joseph went to the small town of Bethlehem. Mary had to ride on a donkey while Joseph had to walk the donkey. Once they got to Bethlehem, they went to an inn but the inn was full. They had animals in them. So Mary had baby Jesus in the stable laying in hay. I enjoy this Bible story because we celebrate Jesus’ birthday on December 25 every year.
Lilly Krebs - Angel visits Mary
My favorite story of the Bible is when an angel visits Mary. First, an angel named Gabriel came to Mary. She was very scared and he said, “Do not be afraid! God has chosen you for something special. You will have a baby and He will be the Messiah. You will name Him Jesus.” When Mary told Joseph what the angel said, he was worried since they were not married yet. An angel visited Joseph and calmed him down. Then, Mary and Joseph went to Bethlehem and had Jesus. I like this story because I enjoy hearing about how Jesus is born.
Emmett Ness - The ten lepers
My favorite Bible story is about Jesus and the ten lepers. When Jesus was walking down a road, ten men with leprosy came to Him. They pleaded with Him to heal them. Then when Jesus healed them, He said “Go to the king and show him you are better.” When the ten left, only one came back to thank Him. Jesus said “Where are the other ten?” The man said, "To show the king.” The man praised Jesus for healing him. Then he went to show the king. After he went to his family. I like this story because if you put your faith in the Lord, you are forgiven.
Edith Pipkorn - Noah’s Ark
Noah and his family were the only people who believed in God. So God said to Noah, “Build a really big ark” because God was going to flood the Earth. God also said to “Take two of every animal and put them in the ark.” So Noah and his sons started building. When they were building the ark, people were making fun of them for building the ark. Then God said to Noah, “Get two of every animal in the boat. Then I will send the flood.” So Noah listened to God. The animals and Noah’s family went in the boat and God shut the door of the ark. God sent the flood. Noah’s family stayed in the boat for forty days and forty nights. Then Noah sent a dove out and the dove brought back an olive branch. Then he sent it out again and the dove did not come back so they got out of the ark and they were on a hill. God put a rainbow in the sky to promise to never flood the world again. This story matters to me because I sometimes feel like my life is being flooded and that’s when I pray like Noah. It makes me feel a lot better.
Lorelei Schley - The plagues
Once there was a man named Moses. There was also a king. The king did not like Moses and God. One day, Moses came to the king and said, “Let my people go.” The king did not agree. Then the plagues God warned about came. The first plague that came was water turning into blood. The second plague was the frogs. After both these plagues, Moses spoke to the king and he did not say that Moses’ people could go. The third plague God sent was gnats everywhere! The fourth plague had flies everywhere! The fifth plague was when livestock died. The king still didn’t change his mind. The sixth plague was boils on the peoples’ skin. The seventh plague was hail from the sky. The eighth plague was swarms of locusts. The ninth plague was darkness covering the land. After these plagues, Moses told the King that God would kill the firstborn in every family. The king did not believe Moses. Moses told the believers that they could protect their children by putting sheep blood over the doors when an angel passed over all the houses. If they had blood on their doors, they were spared. If they didn’t, the firstborn child died. The King was upset because his son died, so he finally let Moses’ people go. I like this story because it has a great lesson about listening to God.
Zoe Scottberg - Jesus’ Crucifixion
My favorite Bible story is Jesus’ crucifixion. What happened was this: the head priests didn’t like Jesus saying that He was the king of the Jews. So they took Him to Pilate to see who would be crucified, Jesus or Barabbas. Jesus was chosen to be crucified. The people who were singing, “Hosanna! Hosanna!” were now shouting “Crucify Him!” After that, Jesus was thrown in prison and was threatened and hurt, spit on and forced to carry a cross up a hill called Golgotha (place of the skull). He was nailed to a cross with two other people beside Him. One person asked Jesus, “Please forgive me.” Jesus replied, “Today you will live eternally with me.” Shortly after that, Jesus died. The sky went dark. There was a holy place that no one was allowed on because there was a carpet blocking the entrance. There was an earthquake and it ripped the carpet in two. Just to make sure Jesus was dead, they put a spear in his side. After that, he was buried in a tomb. He went to hell for three days saying to the devil, “I won.” What this story means to me is that Jesus is with us no matter what happens.
AJ Stefanski - Noah’s Ark
My favorite story in the Bible is Noah’s Ark. God told Noah to build an ark to save people from a flood that God would send because there was so much hate in the world. Noah built the ark so all the animals wouldn’t drown in the flood that God sent. Two of each animal went on the ship that Noah built. After forty days, Noah sent out a dove to make sure it was safe. After, God put out a rainbow in the sky as a promise to not put another flood into the world. I like this story because it shows us that we should listen to God and not be selfish.
Payton Suhajda - Nativity
My favorite Bible story is Jesus´ birth. Mary and Joseph were ordinary people. They were chosen to have a baby to save the world. An angel came to Mary and said, “Name your baby boy, Jesus.” They went to Bethlehem on a donkey. It took a long time. When they got to Bethlehem, they asked the people in the inn for a room but… They did not have any room in the inn. So the manager said, “We have a stable.” Mary had the Savior of the world in a barn. Jesus was wrapped and swaddled in a manger. I chose this story because Jesus' birthday is on Christmas!
