In FFA, degree pins and golden chains serve as visual milestones, signifying a member's growth, leadership skills, and achievements in agriculture. They follow a hierarchical system based on metals and placement, representing the effort a student invests.
The Greenhand Degree represents a dedicated "novice or beginner" in FFA.
The Chapter Degree represents a member's significant progress and commitment to agricultural education, and leadership development. This is the highest degree of membership that can be bestowed directly by a local FFA chapter!
The State Degree represents the highest honor a state association can bestow upon an active member. Awarded to high-achieving upperclassmen, it recognizes exceptional dedication to the organization and excellent leadership skills. This demonstrates that the member has earned or productively invested at least $1,000 and completed 300 unpaid hours outside of class in an agricultural project.
The American Degree represents the highest honor a member can achieve in the National FFA Organization. It represents years of outstanding leadership, community service, scholastic achievement, and a high level of commitment to Supervised Agricultural Experience (SAE) programs. Fewer than 1% of all FFA members nationwide ever earn this prestigious degree. Requirements include earning or productively investing at least $10,000, and participating in at least 50 hours of community service across multiple activities. Not to mention the countless hours spent on their agricultural project.
