ySKILLS model

Building upon the ySKILLS findings and a thorough examination of existing literature, a novel theoretical model has been developed. In this fresh approach, digital literacy acts as an intermediary between the antecedents and outcomes of digital engagement, with the broader concept of digital literacy at its core. Digital literacy encompasses both skills and knowledge, and it should be perceived not merely as functional but also as critical.

David Smahel introduced the new ySKILLS theoretical model.

He explained, "In this innovative model, reflecting the unique focus and empirical findings of ySKILLS, digital literacy takes a central role among other concepts: individual and social factors, digital engagement, ICT access, online activities, and digital engagement's impact on wellbeing."
