Measuring digital literacy

A novel approach to measuring digital skills was introduced through the presentation of the yDSI (Youth Digital Skills Index) by Ellen Helsper, followed by a panel discussion.

Ellen Helsper elaborated on the methodology for measuring digital literacy during her presentation.

The panel, moderated by Hans Martens of European Schoolnet, featured the participation of Alexander van Deursen, Ellen Helsper, Kimmo Alho, and Natalia Waetcher. During the panel discussion, they delved into the significance of various approaches, such as longitudinal research, performance tests, and fMRI (functional magnetic resonance imaging), in the assessment of digital skills.

"Questions derived from the longitudinal survey and the performance tests can serve as valuable tools for educators to enhance the digital skills of their students."
