Fauquier County Public Schools on August of 2021 opened a full-time virtual academy for students entering grades K-12 who wish to learn online. The FCPS Virtual Academy is intended to function as an additional, separate K through 12th grade program.
The FCPS Virtual Academy will give students the opportunity to take courses and earn credits virtually while receiving instruction from the Virtual Virginia Platform (What is Virtual Academy?).
Virtual Academy students will continue to be enrolled in their designated base school and will be able to participate in athletics and activities at that school.
Students must be accepted through the application process in order to enroll in the FCPS Virtual Academy.
FCPS is committed to ensuring all students receive what they need to succeed. Our success in meeting all students' needs is evidenced in our outstanding graduation rates - 96.02% overall and continued high rates in all four subgroup categories. We know that doesn't happen by chance, that happens by design, and it happens by offering personalized learning paths and supports to reach our entire student population.
While we believe that face-to-face, in-person instruction is best for most of our students, it is not best for all. Some students thrive in a virtual learning environment and would benefit from a stand-alone virtual program. The FCPS Virtual Academy will serve as another personalized learning path to provide an engaging, student-centered alternative learning experience where traditional barriers of time, place, and availability are removed.
