Course Description
Second level students concentrate in advanced areas including greenhouse management, production of commercial greenhouse crops, landscape maintenance, advanced floral design, and pesticide safety. Students raise plants for themselves and for sales throughout the year in the school’s greenhouse. Fifty percent of class time is spent in laboratory activities. Students will practice plant reproduction methods and make flower arrangements. In the greenhouse laboratory they will grow common greenhouse plants, transplant plugs, start plants from seeds, label and organize for plant sales and care for plants.
Student Course Objectives Overview:
Develop knowledge of the Horticulture Industry and its relevance to the individual and society.
Develop and apply through horticulture experience and examples, creative thinking and problem solving skills.
Acquire and apply knowledge of the concepts, theories, principles and laws of science to interpret the world of horticulture.
Utilize horticulture experiences in the planning and fulfillment of personal aspirations and career decisions.
Develop a basic knowledge of the language used to interpret the fundamentals and applications of horticulture.
