Course Description
A course in plant science associated with the areas of horticulture and floriculture. Students raise plants for themselves and for sale in the school's greenhouse. They learn how to reproduce plants and make flower arrangements. In the greenhouse laboratory they grow poinsettias, mums and many other common greenhouse plants. Fifty percent of class time is spent in laboratory activities. Example of Class activities include corsage making, table arrangement, landscaping, holiday decoration making, spring flower and vegetable production.
Student Course Objectives Overview:
Develop knowledge of the Horticulture Industry and its relevance to the individual and society.
Develop and apply, through horticulture experience and examples, creative thinking and problem solving skills.
Acquire and apply knowledge of the concepts, theories, principles and laws of science to interpret the world of horticulture.
Utilize horticulture experiences in the planning and fulfillment of personal aspirations and career decisions.
Develop a basic knowledge of the language used to interpret the fundamentals and applications of horticulture.

Students have the opportunity to become certified in Plant Science (to be done in Hort 1 and Hort 2) Students will take assessment in hort 2
