The mission of JROTC (Junior Reserve Officers' Training Corps) is to "motivate young people to be better citizens" by instilling values like citizenship, service, personal responsibility, leadership, and accomplishment, preparing them for success in any path they choose, whether military or civilian. It's a character development program fostering patriotism, discipline, and life skills like communication and teamwork through a curriculum focusing on leadership, health, geography, history, and more.
Henry Clay High school offers the following JROTC pathways:
Army
Army JROTC at Henry Clay High School is a leadership pathway designed to help students build confidence, character, and responsibility. Through classroom instruction and hands-on activities, students learn teamwork, communication, citizenship, and personal wellness while developing strong leadership skills. The program focuses on preparing students for success after high school—whether they choose college, careers, or military service. Students can participate in teams such as Drill, Color Guard, and Raider Team, gaining real-world experience, discipline, and pride as members of the Army Junior Reserve Officers’ Training Corps.

The Raider Team emphasizes physical fitness, teamwork, and problem-solving through challenging outdoor and obstacle-based competitions. Cadets develop endurance, resilience, and leadership while working together under pressure.
The Drill Team focuses on precision, discipline, and teamwork through synchronized marching and ceremonial movements. Cadets build confidence, attention to detail, and leadership skills while representing JROTC at events and competitions.
The Color Guard performs ceremonial presentations of the U.S. flag at school and community events. Cadets demonstrate professionalism, patriotism, and respect while representing Henry Clay High School and Army JROTC.
The Academic Team challenges cadets in leadership, citizenship, military history, and current events. Members sharpen critical thinking, teamwork, and communication skills through competitive academic events.
The Robotics Team combines technology, engineering, and teamwork as cadets design, build, and problem-solve through hands-on robotics projects. This team supports STEM skills and prepares students for future technical and engineering pathways.
The Saber Team performs ceremonial saber arches and formal honors for special events. Cadets learn precision, discipline, and ceremonial traditions while representing JROTC with professionalism and pride.
The Air Rifle Team focuses on marksmanship, safety, and self-discipline. Cadets learn responsibility, concentration, and proper firearm safety while competing in structured and supervised shooting events.
