College Tours
Take at least three in-person or virtual tours of colleges/universities that interest you at the link below. Discuss the pros and cons you see for each college/university. Pay special attention to the majors and minors they offer, the living accommodations, teacher/student ratio, price, size of the campus and anything else that is of interest to you. Post Secondary Education
Everyone's path after graduation will be different. Make sure you are informed to make the best decision for you. Post-secondary education is not limited to a traditional 2 or 4-yr college degree. Apprenticeships, short-term and long-term certifications can also lead to high-demand, high-paying positions. Read this helpful article on Trade Schools vs. College
All seniors are encouraged to complete the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid). The FAFSA application windows open on October 1, 2020. FAFSA Frenzy Help Sessions will be held throughout the month of October and individual help sessions may be scheduled throughout the year as needed. Common App - The Common App is a great tool for college exploration and is convenient for students who would prefer to submit one application for multiple colleges/universities. The Common App is used by over 1000 colleges/universities. Click here to get started on your Common App.
The Common Black College Application allows students to submit a single application to all 66 Participating Member Institutions for $20, interact with school counselors, learn about HBCUs (Historically Black Colleges and Universities), and more to further your college preparation experience. The goal of the online guide for First Generation College Students is to provide tips, information, and support resources that help first-generation students afford and prepare for college -- and be successful and confident once they get there. These students face unique challenges when it comes to college, and we wanted to make sure they had a go-to resource for getting assistance.
