Food & Nutrition

This curriculum for food and nutrition is designed to enable students to develop, acquire and secure practical food skills through using recipes that are suitable and practical for cooking at home, promote healthier eating, reflect more global cuisine, and encourage dialogue around culture and inclusivity.

The curriculum will also develop safe and hygienic practices that can be applied at home as well as in a professional catering environment and challenge students to try alternative food as well as discuss issues such as sustainability, the future of farming and other issues.

Year 7 will begin to look more carefully at people and their choice of diet. Giving students a chance to discuss and explore those diet choices as well as experiment with recipes.

With allergy awareness increasing and very strict guidelines in industry for food preparation it is important that students also have an understanding of how restaurants keep us safe and how we can use the same principles in the school kitchen as well as the home kitchen.

A highlight of year 7 is the chocolate bar design project, this will also overlap with graphic design with students considering the packaging and branding too.
