Issue 8
Greetings Diplomats –
This is the eighteenth installment of a monthly update where I will provide direct reflections and information on issues facing our student-athletes. The title is a line from the F&M alma mater.
The goal of this piece is not to review specific game results, but to present an insider’s view of current national trends, on-campus happenings and what we can look forward to next.
What's Trending
Learfield
F&M Athletics placed 97th out of 323 qualifying Division III institutions with 190 total points in the 2022-23 final Learfield Directors' Cup standings. This marks the 10th-straight year that F&M has placed in the top 100!
Men's Soccer reached the second round of the NCAA Tournament in the fall for 50 points.
Men's Golf made the cut and placed 17th at the NCAA Championships to gain 57 points.
Women's Lacrosse claimed three wins en route to the program's 12th Final Four appearance to earn 83 points.
Diplomat Athletic Club
The Diplomat Athletic Club is on track for a record-breaking year in dollars and donors. There’s great momentum for athletics philanthropy, as evidenced by two straight years of record-setting numbers for dollars and donors in our month-long “Raise Our Game” campaign.
Championship-level experiences require championship-level resources. The passion and power of our philanthropic base is a distinct competitive advantage. Together, we continue to elevate the Diplomat tradition of excellence, and the success of our student-athletes and coaches are directly related to the support provided through the Diplomat Athletic Club.
On Campus
Facilities
Many facilities will see changes this summer. The largest project is turf replacement at Shadek Stadium to correct manufacturer issues. Other projects include moving the Diplomat Strength Center, “the PIT”, into the Woods Room with the ASFC and moving the men’s and women’s rowing team into Mayser Gymnasium.
Construction on the Lombardo Welcome Center is set to begin this summer and we are excited to have the building on the same side of Harrisburg Avenue alongside most of our athletic facilities. We have some of the finest facilities in Division III, and it will be great to showcase them to all visitors, regardless of their varsity sport recruitment status.
