Issue 1

Greetings Diplomats –

This is the eleventh installment of a monthly update where I will provide direct reflections and information on issues facing our student-athletes. The title is a line from the F&M alma mater.

The goal of this piece is not to review specific game results, but to present an insider’s view of current national trends, on-campus happenings and what we can look forward to next.

What's Trending

Fall Sports Success

Fall weather has arrived on campus, but our Diplomats continue to stay hot midway through the season.

  • We opened with an overflow crowd that enjoyed post-game fireworks to celebrate the 2022-23 academic year and first-ever night football game in Shadek Stadium.

  • Both the men’s and women’s soccer teams achieved national rankings thanks to their 8 consecutive games without a loss while field hockey jumped out to an undefeated start in conference play thanks to an upset of #20 Ursinus.

  • In Mayser, volleyball has been dominant as of late, sweeping their last five opponents.

  • On the courses, cross country prepares for big races to close out the season following a stellar showing at the Paul Short Invitational and the golf teams look to continue their dominance after finishing first or second in each of their three tournaments this fall.

October is the month-long philanthropic athletics event that supports the Diplomat tradition of excellence. In each of my first two years we have set new Raise Our Game records for both total donors and dollars raised. This year, our goal is 2,000 donors and $400,000.

  • Championship level experiences require championship level resources. I’m grateful for the legion of blue and white that supports our more than 650 student-athletes in their pursuit of academic excellence, competitive success and community contribution.

On Campus

First Night Football Game in Shadek Stadium

    • If you were there, it’s a night that will forever live in your memory and imprint on your heart!

    • As I stood on the field following the game with President Altmann and provided Coach Blumenauer the ceremonial game ball to mark his first victory as F&M head coach, my heart swelled with pride for dear ol’ F&M.

Track or Treat

    • The popular student-athlete leadership council event is back after a two-year hiatus! Teams will turn the ASFC track into a candy route for Lancaster city residents to enjoy safe trick-or-treating on October 31 and will also have several stations for children to play games with the student-athletes.

What's Next

True Blue Weekend

    • We welcome 10 new inductees to the Athletics Hall of Fame on Friday, and celebrate the 50th anniversaries of field hockey and volleyball. Almost every team has a home game that weekend — there will be no shortage of events or alumni on campus!

Centennial Conference Championship Changes

    • New this year are expanded championship tournament fields, days of rest between competition dates and highest-remaining seed to host the championship. Make sure to consult godiplomats.com for the most up-to-date information regarding CC postseason contests, locations and dates!
