The Franklin & Marshall baseball team (15-9, 1-1 CC) takes on two Centennial Conference (CC) opponents this week. F&M travels to play Haverford (11-8, 0-2 CC) on Tuesday, before hosting the Fords at Penn Medicine Park on Friday with both games starting at 3:30 p.m. The Diplomats then head to Swarthmore (11-12, 2-0 CC) on Saturday for a doubleheader with the Garnet, starting at noon.
Last Week
The Diplomats wrapped up its non-conference schedule with a 10-0 run-rule victory over Albright on Tuesday. F&M surged for seven runs in the bottom of the sixth to secure its third run-rule win in a row. Nick DiGiacomo and Tanner Wolpert tallied two hits each in the win. Seven Diplomats recorded an RBI with Filippelli registering a team-high two RBI in the contest. Dan Galef struck out five and allowed no earned runs in four innings of relief to earn his sixth win of the season. F&M opened its Centennial Conference slate on Saturday, splitting a doubleheader with No. 4 Johns Hopkins. F&M erased a 7-0 deficit to tie the game at 7-all in the eighth inning. In the bottom of the ninth, Matt Hollender launched a walk-off two-run home run over the left field fence to complete the comeback win for the Diplomats. Nolan McCloskey registered a team-high three hits, while Filippelli drove in four RBI during the victory. Kiernan Keller earned his third win of the year as he kept the game scoreless during his ninth-inning relief appearance. Dan Galef tied his season-high in strikeouts, fanning seven batters and allowing three earned runs in 4.2 innings-pitched.
Additionally, Bobby Falese became the first Diplomats to join the 200-hit club as he recorded an infield single during the sixth inning of game one.
No. 4 Johns Hopkins held off the Diplomats' comeback efforts to take game two and split Saturday's doubleheader. F&M jumped out to 2-0 lead, but JHU responded with three runs in the fifth to take over the lead. The Blue Jays led 5-2 entering the bottom of the ninth when F&M plated two runs to get within a run of tying the game. F&M worked the bases loaded, but couldn't get the tying run home as JHU held on to win. Four Diplomats recorded multi-hit games, with Filippelli leading the team with two RBI. The Diplomats fell to the Fords, 3-2, in the opening round of the 2024 Centennial Conference Tournament. Haverford jumped in front 3-0, but F&M stormed back with two runs in the bottom of the sixth to get within a run of tying the game. Franklin & Marshall got the tying run to third with two outs in the bottom of the eighth, but couldn't drive the runner in as Haverford held on to advance in the tournament. Last Time vs. Swarthmore
Swarthmore defeated Franklin & Marshall, 6-5, in its last matchup in 2024. F&M trailed 6-3 entering the bottom of the eighth when the Diplomats fought back with two runs to cut the deficit to one. F&M loaded the bases in the bottom of the ninth, but couldn't bring in the tying run as Swarthmore completed the season sweep of F&M. Jakob Hoffman '24 and Hollender recorded three hits and two RBI each, with Hoffman hitting a home run in the fifth inning.
