The Franklin & Marshall baseball team (3-0) gears up for a five-game home stand, facing three non-conference opponents at Penn Medicine Park. The Diplomats host their home opener on Friday with a game against DeSales (2-0) at 1:00 p.m. F&M then plays RIT (1-1) in a doubleheader on Saturday at 11:00 a.m. before hosting game three against the Tigers on Sunday at noon. Franklin & Marshall wraps up the home stand on Tuesday, battling York (Pa.) (0-0) at 3:00 p.m.
Last Week
The Diplomats completed a three-game sweep of Hampden-Sydney to open the 2025 season. F&M defeated the Tigers, 14-8, in game one as the Diplomats tallied 15 hits and three home runs in the victory. Franklin & Marshall completed the weekend with a doubleheader sweep on Sunday. The Diplomats claimed game one, 11-4, before taking game two, 7-3. Bobby Falese led the F&M offense, hitting .500 with three doubles, one home run and four RBI. AJ Desautels followed by batting .429 with one double, one home run and seven RBI. Desautels also recorded six runs scored and four stolen bases during the series.
On the mound, Bijan Anvar, Dan Galef and David McGeorge all earned wins last weekend, with Anvar tossing five scoreless innings during the Diplomats game two win. Peter Mullen struck out seven and allowed just one earned run in his outing, but received a no-decision in game three.
Last Time vs. DeSales
The Diplomats defeated the Bulldogs, 8-1, in their last meeting in 2006. Coming off a three-game losing streak, F&M jumped out to an early 2-1 lead in the first inning. DeSales plated a run in the bottom of the second to cut the deficit in half. However, Franklin & Marshall scored two runs in the seventh and four runs in the eighth to pull away from DeSales on the scoreboard. F&M used a three-run first inning to down RIT, 3-0, in its last meeting in 2019. The Diplomats didn't record a hit in the opening frame, drawing three walks and two hit-by-pitches to cross the plate three times. Jack Buckley '20 was lights out on the mound, striking out 11 and allowing one hit and no earned runs in six innings. The then-ranked No. 25 Spartans defeated F&M, 12-4, in their last meeting in 2024. F&M took a 1-0 lead in the top of third as Matt Hollender scored on a groundout. YCP battled back by scoring 12-straight runs across the next five innings to take a 12-1 lead. F&M tallied five hits as a team, while Drew Butera '24 drove in a team-high two RBI in the contest. DeSales Team Preview
DeSales finished the 2024 season with an 18-23 record and currently hold a 2-0 record to start the new season, recording wins over New Paltz. Gavin Zavorski opened the season batting .625 with two RBI and four runs scored. Travis Kerr hit .500 in the opening series with two doubles and five RBI. Ashton Johnson and Mike Hooker started the first two games on the mound with Johnson recording three strikeouts in six innings of work. Kevin Eden was dominate out of the bullpen, striking out two allowing just one hit in 2.1 innings to earn a save.
RIT Team Preview
RIT defeated Alfred State, 5-1, on Opening Day before falling to No. 7 Salisbury, 10-0, on Sunday. Jarin Moses and Adam Marsh lead the Tigers, batting .286 with a double each. Moses tallied two runs scored, while Marsh drove in four RBI during the opening weekend. John Arnold earned the win on the mound in game one, striking out nine and allowing no hits or earned runs in five innings of work. Dylan Joseph closed the game with five strikeouts in two innings to claim the save.
York (Pa.) Team Preview
After finishing the 2024 season with a 21-20 record, York begins the 2025 campaign with a three-game series against No. 9 Lynchburg before coming to Lancaster on Tuesday. The Spartans return two key players in Chris Betler and Michael Tinneny, who were both named All-Region selections last season. Betler hit .423 in his 41 games for the 2024 campaign. Betler had 50 runs scored, six doubles, one triple and nine home runs. Tinneny batted .383 in his 41 games played. He had 47 runs scored, 14 doubles, two triples, and six home runs.
