Hello parents!
Many of you walked the halls of Fairport High School back in the not-so-distant past…to ultimately cross the stage with diploma in hand on a memorable day of graduation.
Those of us from the more distant past, from the Class of 1964, remember ours fondly as well. Now we’re “seniors” again, with grandchildren and in some cases, great grandchildren!
Since 2011 we have awarded an annual scholarship – we call it the Ambassador Award – to graduating seniors who have one or more parents or grandparents as FHS alums.
Our class graduated 165 members from Minerva Deland High School more than a half century ago. In the past 15 years class members and others have donated more than $10,000 that was awarded to 15 seniors.
We have always felt that we have our high school days to thank for much of who and where we are in life today. Giving back, for us, means we can reward students who recognize the value of pursuing a good education and are committed to a great community.
Does your family have a senior who qualifies? We encourage eligible candidates to apply soon with Mrs.Smith in the Guidance Library (now located downstairs in the new front hallway).
The scholarship is presented at the annual awards assembly in June to a graduate who meets the following requirements:
Attend a two- or four-year college or trade/technical school in the fall or winter following their graduation
Hold a minimum average of 75% and is not a member of the National Honor Society
Have one or more members of his/her immediate family (parents, grandparents or legal guardians) be a graduate of Fairport High School
Demonstrate active leadership in school activities, particularly within their graduating class, and attest in an essay specific to the scholarship as to their relationship to a previous FHS graduate, and why they will make a good ambassador to the high school and Fairport community in the years after graduation
Thank you for encouraging your seniors to apply!
To apply, you can either access the application here or have your senior stop by the Guidance Library or Counseling Offices for a hard copy.

We help our community's students succeed through scholarships
Fairport-Perinton Dollars for Scholars, a local chapter of Scholarship America, was established in 1989 by a group of volunteers interested in providing financial support to community young people pursuing higher education. The program is not-for-profit, tax-exempt, and publicly supported.
Fairport-Perinton Dollars for Scholars is administered by a volunteer Board of Directors made up of community leaders, school personnel, parents, and students. All monies raised by the local chapter are awarded to deserving students who reside within the Fairport Central School District regardless of which school they attend. A scholarship committee selects the recipients each year based on an application process which is not need-based.
The chapter awards its own scholarships using monies raised through direct donations from sponsors and local fundraising projects. In addition to awarding its chapter scholarships, Dollars for Scholars administers scholarship funds for other local groups and organizations. If you are interested in establishing a community scholarship from your family, business or a memorial to honor a loved one, please contact Pat Kristy.
If you would like to support Fairport-Perinton Dollars for Scholars by volunteering your time as a board member or as a volunteer for one of the fundraising events, or if you would like more information, please contact Angie Kettell.
Fairport-Perinton Dollars for Scholars, Suite 198, 144 Fairport Village Landing, Fairport, NY 14450.
In 1985, the Urban-Suburban Program commemorated its 20th anniversary by establishing a scholarship award to honor the achievements demonstrated by hundreds of former and future graduates. The Reidman Corporation of Rochester, Monroe County, through the auspices of the Rochester Chamber of Commerce, donated $3,000.00 to cover two award years.
At the end of the two-year period, Urban-Suburban parents urged that scholarship awards be continued. Subsequently, scholarships are awarded yearly, and monies are provided through fundraisers organized and carried out by dedicated parents and program staff. Over 500 graduating students have received Urban-Suburban scholarships and have used these monies to start successful college careers.
In the spirit of the program’s annual goals, the Urban-Suburban Scholarship Committee awards scholarships to graduating Urban-Suburban students for their achievements.
