What is peer tutoring/mentoring?

Peer tutoring/mentoring is a club designed to connect students who are willing and qualified to tutor/connect with students seeking out support.  Tutoring is offered in all core subject areas as well as potential electives when available.  Peer tutoring was created as a means for students to become actively involved in the education of their peers, and serves as the organization to facilitate these connections.

How do I become a peer tutor/mentor?

To be eligible to tutor in a subject a student needs to have a 90+ current or former grade in the course.   Complete an application form (can be found below) or see Mrs. Newtown in the counseling office to pick one up.  Return the form to Mrs. Newtown.  You will be required to attend monthly meetings and log your tutoring hours via our google docs document.

How do I attain a peer tutor/mentor?

If you are in need of a peer tutor/mentor contact your high school counselor or see Mrs. Newtown in the counseling office.  Mrs. Newtown will gather your information and will connect you with a tutor within 1-2 days.  Meeting times with your tutor can be during common free periods, after school or on your own time outside of school if arranged.  Peer tutors typically meet with students 2 times per week.

Please email Doreen MacDonough (doreen.macdonough@fairport.org) or Alison Bersani (alison.bersani@fairport.org), if you'd like a list of outside tutors.
