Mr. Tappe’s Grade 10 English Literature Class
Parents,
I wanted to take this opportunity to welcome you to your child’s grade 10 English Language and Literature class! To start off, I would like to introduce myself. My name is Mr. Tappe and I first year teacher at ______. I graduated from Eastern Washington University in 2022 with a degree in English Secondary Education. My goal for this year is to have your students engage in and analyze literature. We will be reading and analyzing some amazing things this year! In the following, you have the reading list, objectives, student expectations, and plagiarism guidelines. I will have a more detailed description of the above when I see you at the open house. I am looking forward to working with your student and meeting you. Let’s have a great school year!
By the end of the school year, students will be able to:
- Analyze texts and understand how literary devices work within a text
- Write arguments to support claims in an analysis of substantive topics or texts, using valid reasoning and relevant and sufficient evidence.
- Write informative/explanatory texts to examine and convey complex ideas, concepts, and information clearly and accurately through the effective selection, organization, and analysis of content.
Student Expectations:
- Show up to class on time and prepared
- Respect other thoughts and opinions
- ASK QUESTIONS
- Notify me if they are going to be gone for days at a time
Plagiarism:
· Students are expected to submit work that they themselves created. There is no place for stealing the work of others. If your student is caught plagiarizing, they will receive an automatic zero, and further action may be taken. It is important for us to not be afraid to make mistakes, and try to better ourselves as writers. Copy and pasting work defeats the purpose of the assignments.
