My teaching philosophy relies heavily on the students having a part of their own learning and classroom decisions. I want my classroom to be a safe, positive, and efficient. To make this happen, I need to set standards and guidelines. Once those are in place it is integral for me to model them. A few of the standards and guidelines that I have thought about having in my classroom are as follows:
- Positive attitudes conquer the day
- Respect each other's thoughts and opinions
- Do your best to not interrupt myself or other students while speaking.
- No cell phones, unless instructed to for class-related assignments, surveys, etc.
- Don't be afraid to speak your mind,
- Zero tolerance towards plagiarism
As is noted in the above, I believe that the first step of the many in creating a safe, positive, and efficient classroom is having a space where respect is shared by students and myself.
