Vermont Principals Association Podcast - Episode 27 Conversation on AI with Ryan Dudley
I recorded this podcast with Mike McRaith from the Vermont Principals Association in April '23. In this episode, we talk about what ChatGPT is as well as the differences between it and Google Bard, two of the more popular language generators right now.
We also look at how student use of this has become a problem in some schools and what teachers can do to avoid or detect it.
We also look at the other side of this fascinating technology and how we, as educators, can use it as a tool to help struggling learners, create content that we can use in lessons and problems and what we can learn from it. (2.1.1.1, 2.1.3.2, 2.1.5.1)
I joined some other digital learning leaders from throughout Vermont to discuss how Artificial Intelligence is being used in education. I represented middle school teachers on this panel and spoke to the challenges and successes that we have been able to see in some of our middle school classrooms. (1.1.1, 1.1.3, 2.1.2.3)
I enjoyed getting back into using a blog for recording ideas, even if they are just for me. I view creating a published online blog as like a sandbox for creating a new website. It is personal writing that can be like stream of conciousness, but in the back of your mind you know that anyone in the world could stumble across it, so you put in the extra time to make sure it looks and sounds good. It isn't meant for big audiences so it gives you a playground to try new features, fonts, formats with little risk. I had built a blog 16+ years ago when I didn't realize how much I would be using technology let alone teaching it. It was nice to revisit this tool for reflection. (2.1.1.1)
These are my examples of two SMART goals that I created on the class common document. I have had experience writing SMART goals every year that I have been teaching and before that in past careers. These are two that I am currently working on now. (2.1.1.1)

Digital Safety and Security for Adults and Parents - May 23, 2023 6:30PM
This idea came out of feedback from parents of my students, looking for the same information their children were coming home and telling them about after my class.
I contacted Essex Junction Recreation and Parks as a venue in the community where I can hold the class and we announced it on May 1st. (2.1.5.1)
