In this introductory ceramics class, students will learn about the basics of building methods in ceramics: pinch, coil, slab and wheel throwing. Students will learn the basic terminology of ceramics, as well as various methods of surface design, basic glazing and firing techniques. Students will experience creating artwork using all of the learned methods and techniques, as well as be able to apply them in their own ceramic pieces. Both functional and decorative methods will be constructed.

Prerequisite: Successful completion of Ceramics 1.

This class gives students a more in-depth experience in the clay making process. Students will create functional as well as sculptural pieces, using a variety of advanced techniques. Discussion of traditional and contemporary uses of clay will be used to introduce students to various methods of forming and finishing work. Students will also become familiar with the loading and operation of the kiln as well as other ceramic studio maintenance. By the end of this class, students should be able to work independently on a ceramic piece of their own choosing.
