Dr. Youngshin Park is a Professor in the Department of Earth Science Education at Chosun University. She received her B.A. in Earth Science Education from Seoul National University, and both her M.S. and Ph.D. in Science Education from Oregon State University, U.S.A. Her academic expertise encompasses science teacher education, earth science curriculum development, informal science learning, science communication, and climate change education.
Dr. Park has built her career through diverse experiences in both domestic and international educational settings. She has served as an elementary school teacher in Corvallis, Oregon, a research fellow at the Korean Educational Development Institute (KEDI), and an assistant professor at Seoul National University in the BK21 Program for Future Society Science Education. Over the years, she has been deeply involved in initiatives that connect science education with public engagement, including museum docent training, science communication programs, and curriculum innovation projects.
Her contributions to the academic community are internationally recognized. She has held leadership roles in prominent scholarly societies such as ASTE (Association for Science Teacher Education), IGEO (International Geoscience Education Organization), and EASE (East-Asian Association for Science Education), and has served as an international coordinator for APSE (Asia Pacific Science Education). Since 2010, she has also worked as a science and technology education advisor and content developer for UNESCO.
Dr. Park has participated in numerous national projects focused on enhancing science education, such as developing STEAM programs on climate change and water scarcity, conducting teacher training in scientific inquiry and argumentation, and leading international internship programs in science museums. Her publications include works like Science Education Research and Practice in East Asia, Innovations in Science Teacher Education in the Asia Pacific, and various textbooks and guidebooks for earth science teaching in Korea.
At this conference, Dr. Park will speak on the topic of climate change education, shedding light on the pedagogical approaches and societal responsibilities of educators in fostering environmental awareness and resilience. Her lecture will address the intersection of science education, sustainability, and civic engagement.
