Develop practices and procedures to ensure that students, staff and community members’ health and safety is a top priority.
Develop parameters to address the expectations for social distancing, workplace cleanliness and on-going communication to students, staff and the community to ensure sound hygiene practices are being implemented.
East Whittier City School District has spent the last three months preparing for the forthcoming school year. To assist with that planning process, the Personnel, Safety and Health Subcommittee has focused on developing the following guidelines and considerations that are intended to help school leaders plan and prepare to resume in-person instruction.
This guidance is interim. These guidelines and considerations are based on the best available public health data at this time, international best practices currently employed, and the practical realities of managing school operations; as new data and practices emerge, the guidance will be updated.
Additionally, the guidelines and considerations do not reflect the full scope of issues that school communities will need to address. Although it will cover some day-to-day site-based logistics, this handbook will be an evolving resource; further guidance is forthcoming.
Implementation of this guidance will depend on local public health conditions, including those listed here. All decisions about following this guidance will be made in collaboration with local health officials and other authorities. Implementation of this guidance should be tailored for each setting, including adequate consideration of instructional programs operating at each school site and the needs of students and families.
The development of strategies to help provide a healthy and safe school environment for all students, including those with underlying health conditions, involve school nurses, other health professionals, and school and District administrators. Our health team is awaiting guidance from the Los Angeles County of Public Health to be released to finalize specific Covid-19 related protocols to support students with underlying health conditions. Our School Nurses are tasked with creating individualized health care plans for students whose medical conditions warrant support at school.
