A month of LOVE...
There are so many things I love all year long, but in February we get to highlight just a few. Of course, I LOVE my family and friends. I love my students. And I'm especially thankful and LOVE my DeMasi family! This is my 2nd year here, and I feel like I'm "home" thanks to all of you for making me feel welcome! Let's get into our February curriculum:
We are continuing to learn about coding. 5th Graders did some basic coding using Python to type out instructions for a game called Ozaria. Now that they've played a coding game, it's time to create their OWN game. So they are working on creating a game in Sprite Labs.
4th Graders are also using Sprite Labs to design a virtual pet. Their pet will interact with them whenever they give it a treat or pet it by clicking on it. They are learning about Conditionals and how the computer code interprets these conditionals that they set.
In 3rd Grade, students are creating Events for a Dance Party. Their characters will do certain dance moves in time to the beat of a song.
2nd Graders are working on using Loops within a code to repeat an action with less coding sentences. If the code is too long, mistakes, or "bugs" are bound to happen. So simplifying a code using the "repeat" or "loop" block helps simplify the coding.
We are solving problems in 1st Grade... literally looking for "bugs" in our program and learning to fix them. They are looking for 3 things: What happened? What SHOULD happen? And What does that tell me? Then they are adjusting or "debudding" their code.
Kindergarteners are learning that sequencing is important in coding. For example, you can't put your shoes on, and then your socks! That won't work! So they have to put their steps in the right order also known as sequencing!
Ask your child what they are coding this month! It may spark some interesting conversation!
