Session #2: Deep Dive – Education & Schools
How are our schools doing? What needs to change so every child can learn, grow, and thrive with dignity?
Building on the first session’s priorities, this conversation focused on Education, diving into the school experiences of Kent County youth and families. The session began with a gallery walk of quotes gathered through one-on-one conversations, followed by story circles that invited participants to reflect on personal experiences with the school system—from early childhood to high school and beyond.
In small groups, neighbors shared stories of exclusion and support, challenges navigating special education and language access, and dreams for stronger parent-school partnerships. We asked:
“What needs to change?”
Through collaborative discussion and visioning, the group identified major themes and began drafting SMART (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, Time-bound) goals that would move Kent County schools closer to being inclusive, supportive, and responsive learning environments for all.
