Discussion Questions

From Darkness to Light...

Then Jesus cried out, “Whoever believes in me does not believe in me only, but in the one who sent me. The one who looks at me is seeing the one who sent me. I have come into the world as a light, so that no one who believes in me should stay in darkness.

John 12:44-46

WATCH the video Death Was Arrested: Easter Moment. Then, follow the questions below.

  • How was God's character revealed through Jesus' encounter with the stories of Lazarus, Mary Magdalene, and Simon Peter?

  • Which scenario do you most relate to (Lazarus, Mary Magdelene, Simon Peter)?

  • What darkness in this world might Jesus be calling you out of in order to fully see how He is the light of the World?

  • How might Jesus be revealing to you that your salvation and testimony is ONLY found in knowing and believing in Him?

Lazarus

Often times, we think of the story of Lazarus through the familiar scripture, “Jesus wept.” But this was a moment when Jesus performed a miracle by demonstrating a character of compassion and humility.

Mary Magdalene

Mary was troubled and overcome by the bondage of evil in her life. When Jesus freed her of that bondage, she responded as one who had been made new and wanted nothing to do with the darkness of her past sin. When Jesus restored her, he demonstrated a character of hope and restoration.

Simon Peter

Even Simon Peter found himself conflicted and in denial when placed under pressure and questioned if he was a friend and follower of Jesus. However, in seeing Jesus after the resurrection, he was reminded of Jesus' calling on him to go and make disciples. Jesus demonstrated a character of faith and assurance that motivated Peter to step into what he had been called to do: lead the Church.
