From April 26th-April 30th, six San Pasqual High School (SPHS) DECA members traveled to Atlanta, Georgia, to compete at the annual International Career Development Conference (ICDC). For the second year in a row, SPHS attended and competed at ICDC, an accomplishment some DECA chapters have still not met. There, over 28,000 students from around the world gathered to test their skills in competitive events, leadership activities, and advocacy efforts. SPHS DECA members proudly represented their chapter, achieving historic milestones and making a strong impression on the global stage.
Throughout the conference, members participated in a range of activities, including role-play events, rigorous 100-question industry exams, leadership workshops, networking sessions, pin trading, and chapter program presentations. SPHS students showcased not only their knowledge and preparation but also their professionalism, teamwork, and commitment to excellence.
The team of Cora Thissel (‘28) and Rachel Hodgson (‘27), alongside, competed at ICDC, representing the team of California (alongside 3 other teams from California), in the Travel and Tourism Team Decision Making Category. Together, they scored an 85 on their Case study, and an 80 and 79 on the Hospitality and Tourism 100 Question Knowledge Exam respectively.
Additionally, Ariana Mercado (‘26), Josephine Rogalski (‘27), and Salvador Lopez (‘26) attended their leadership workshops, from tickets earned from the Chapter Awards and Campaign Programs. They spent the week learning about how to maximize success and opportunities for the community in DECA.
When not competing or attending workshops, the team experienced the World of Coca-Cola, a U.S. Federal Reserve, Six Flags Over Georgia, the Georgia Aquarium, an F1 Arcade, and a personal tour at Georgia Tech.
Overall, ICDC 2026 was a major success for SPHS DECA. Students returned home with new skills, unforgettable experiences, and a sense of pride knowing they made chapter history. As SPHS DECA continues to grow, its achievements at ICDC will serve as a powerful reminder of what hard work, dedication, and leadership can accomplish.
