Over 50 years have passed since the San Pasqual High School (SPHS) Distributive Education Clubs of America (DECA) Chapter was created. Following the end of the 2023-2024 school year, the DECA advisor from Del Lago Academy (DLA), a neighboring school in Escondido, California, initiated the resurrection of DECA at San Pasqual by assisting the current advisor of SPHS DECA with paperwork and resources. While the club was in the early phases, current President Olivia Garcia and Vice President Lena Devine were chosen as the first club members. The two remained the only SPHS DECA members until the 2024-2025 school year, when DLA DECA member, and previous President, Jacob Whitney, transferred to SPHS in an effort to spread DECA to another school, and assist with building the new chapter. Jacob Whitney received the title of Vice President of Marketing after evaluation of his robust social media skills. The three members then created a social media account, held a DECA interest meeting, created an informational booth at the annual SPHS Club Rush, and used their marketing skills to enter the next phase of creating SPHS DECA: Recruitment & Expansion. As each event proved to be more and more successful, new faces were seen at each weekly meeting. What started as a mere idea months before, was finally becoming a reality; and it was just the beginning. Within the second week of September, weekly attendance had grown from three members, to over 40; the most members ever recorded in SPHS DECA history.Â
Currently, there are seven executive DECA officers, some even with a respective underclassman intern, who will learn from the current officer. The officers and interns are as follows: President Olivia Garcia & Vice President Lena Devine, Vice President of Marketing Jacob Whitney with interns Diana Alzina Gomez & Elissa Sevier, Vice President of Leadership Alejandro Alzina Gomez with intern Rachel Hodgson, Vice President of Finance Juan Garcia with intern Amelia Mackey, Vice President of Career Development Misha Patel, and Vice President of Hospitality David Sabin.
