This information is aimed at Participants of EPIQ2020.
The content of this website is written at a 4th grade reading level with the thought that the lesson found here would appeal to late Elementary and Middle School students. Those of you are educators please don't think I am writing down to you but rather that I am modeling what you might wish to do with students of this age. If you are new to programing you may find this a good introduction to programming.
This web site will be maintained for 3 years. It is available at no cost. It is a Google Site. I would be happy to share the entire site so that you can have clone of this site that you customize for your use.
It will end on May 15, 2024.
Epiq 2024 Quorum Studio 5.1.0 s now ready. This is needed to program for the EV3 Lego robot. If you have not downloaded and install it, now is the time. This Language now includes Block Program making even easier for begginer.n If you have a EV3 robot you will need to download the Robot download with the LeJOS Operating System and transfer it to your micro-SD card. The first time you start the EV3 with the microSD install it will complete the process of reformatting the card and install the LeJOS.
If you don't have an EV3 or Quorum Studio you can still be programing a robot today. It simple. Write your code in Quorum Studio, any word processor or even your email program and send it to Tim Lockwood by email. He will process it and load it on a robot and take a video and send up to this site for you and your classmate to see. (Don't type in the line numbers.) There is a epip-robot channel in the QUORUM slack at epic-robot where you can ask questions and even paste code you would like to have test on a real robot and we post back a video your our robot running you code. You are welcome to make use of this same system to have videos made of your robot code but expect it to be up to 24 hours before getting a response.
Educational Methodology: This Web Site uses a modified Psycho-Generative model of language acquisition. I have long used this method to teach music and feel that it is well suited for use with the Quorum Programming Language and young learners. Students will create many very short codes. We don't stress why or how everything works just yet. I am more concerned at first with the students learning the words and phrases of the language. Next, I will need to gather information on how effective this method is. Thanks for your help.
