Responses from Dominic:
Q1: What advantages do you see for districts using PreACT 8/9, PreACT and ACT to support students in achieving higher ACT scores?
A: There are definite advantages to using the PreACT and PreACT 8/9 in improving ACT scores. Simply taking a PreACT results, on average, in a slightly higher ACT score later in a student’s career. The attached “PreACT Gains” graphic shows that data, specifically for Nebraska students. This can likely be explained just by exposure to the test resulting in greater familiarity with the format and decreased anxiety on the later ACT assessment. Bigger advantages can be achieved when schools go beyond simply administering a PreACT or PreACT 8/9 to analyzing their data, identifying students in need of intervention, and performing curriculum review based on aggregate results. PreACT exams give predicted scores for future ACT assessments, so using them together also provides a way to monitor academic growth over time. There are additional benefits, too, such as those in the attached research report showing how PreACT can be used as a tool to predict success in AP classes in high school.
Q2: What advantages are there to use PreACT instead of MAP Growth for grades 9-10, specifically?
A: There are two main advantages to using the PreACT assessment suite versus the MAP scores. The first is that, like the ACT itself, the PreACT exams are tied to the ACT College and Career Readiness Standards. These standards are derived from our research and are predictive of success in college, making them an excellent benchmark for post-secondary readiness. The biggest advantage is in the data. Because the standards the PreACTs are the same as those used for the ACT and the reporting categories used for scoring are the same as the ACT, having the academic performance data for all of a student’s high school career in the same format makes it much easier to track growth and evaluate a school’s curriculum implementation success.
Q3: Does ACT still have the Nebraska Summary Report that breaks down student performance on ACT according to the NSCAS performance levels (Developing, On Track, Advanced)?
A: I’m going to wait to see if Iris has the information for this question. If she doesn’t, though, I’m happy to follow up with our state team and see what the current status is of these reports.

Chronic Absenteeism
Clarification from Shirley Vargas, NDE
Per Rule 2, on page 8, a school must have a local adopted policy that allows for a student to engage in instruction in different ways for that student to be coded as present. When calculating the chronic absence rate, we take the data that is certified by the superintendent at the end of school year. On the AQuESTT Business Rules, page 11, you can find more information.

ESU Vision & Values (below)
JAG Nebraska (ppd to September)
The year is 2028 and your Spring AFFA (Assessment Fun For All) results, which you received 2 hours following completion of the test window, show that your proficiency levels are consistently above 90% for ELA, Math and Science. Special Education students are over 75% proficient. Additionally, all of your CIP goals are on track to being met.
The ESU has been visibly present involved in your district, which you perceive as a contributing factor.
How has the ESU's support evolved over the past 5 years to impact your results?
Consider the current priorities of your district.
Consider the current programming and the relationships that ESU employees have with the employees of your district. What is working? What's missing or could be improved?
Meet as a district team and discuss the ESU's future aspirations in terms of its long-term growth and impact on member school districts. How would you harness all the agency's foresight into one impactful statement? Summarize your thoughts into a vision statement.
What essential qualities must ESU employees possess in order to work effectively with your district to achieve the Vision?
Individually compose a list of 3-4 values that reflect essential qualities of ESU employees.
Meet with a partner and compare notes. Collaborate to identify a new list of 3-4 values.
Each pair of partners will meet with another pair; repeat.
Repeat the process until it becomes a full group conversation.
Create a short statement that provides context for each of the values that your selected.
