The Green Hat of Sex Appeal

The spirit of Summer Honors lies within the traditions that have been embedded into the program since 1977. Many of these traditions have no rhyme or reason, but without them, Summer Honors would not be what it is today. A few of these traditions are the three green things, one of which is the Green Hat of Sex Appeal. Founded in 1994 the Green Hat of Sex Appeal was added to the two main traditions at the time: The Green Jacket and Maude. Matt Hilker, an amazing artist, was a senior from Arapahoe. He was known for wearing all kinds of different hats every day during Summer Honors. It was his thing. He graciously left one of his hats with the Summer Honors Program as a brand new tradition: The Green Hat of Sex Appeal. The Green Hat was deemed sex appeal not on the basis of appearance but rather true character. The hat is passed down each year alternating between genders. Recently each person who has worn the Green Hat has added a new button to the top of the hat that is meaningful to them in some way. The Green Hat is earned by competing in a contest that the current wearer deems fit. Like the Green Jacket, this hat is a reminder to not take anything too seriously.
