Evening Activities
Summer honors wouldn't be summer honors without the activities! We had a blast this year at all of the activities and want to thank all who make these happen.
The kids loved being able to experience tank driving and air traffic control with the simulators, play fun active "Z tag" games, race in the "Boot camp" blow up obstacle course, and play some intense spike-ball games. We also had a chance to explain all of the many significant (and odd) traditions of the program, including class mascots, to the first year and new kids.
Tuesday's evening activity required a little more brains...so good thing we have kids who excel in all subjects of learning! We were excited to bring back this fun event!
This year's Poetry Slam & Talent Show was full of talented poetry, entertaining acts, and even new mascots! We were excited to announce the new mascot of the Medical Science class, Ozzy Ozempic the alligator! Aspyn Chapin was the winner of the Poetry Slam and the Cherry Coke Crown. The creative writing class did an amazing job putting the event on this year and the participants were some of the best!
We had a blast on the night at the "Y" which was filled with swimming, s'mores, games, and smiles! The kids also got to hear from Mike Lewis and Chris Burchell from the SHPAA (Summer Honors Program Aluni Association) about their amazing association that does so much for the program that they get to enjoy. The students especially loved Mike's song "Maude" in honor of our beloved and oldest SHP tradition, Maude.
Game night, best night! Our game night included volleyball, basketball, and corn hole tournaments along with nine square in the air and cake for Maude's birthday! Congrats to the championship volleyball team, Shakin' Ace, and the basketball championship team, Ankle Breakers!
We danced all night long with our SHP friends and made so many memories. What could be better than that?
