Green Jacket

The Green Jacket

The spirit of Summer Honors lies within the traditions that have been embedded into the program since 1977. Many of these traditions have no rhyme or reason, but without them, Summer Honors would not be what it is today. A few of these traditions are the three green things, one of which is the Green Jacket. Founded in 1986 by Dan Cox the Green Jacket represents the spirit of summer honors. It has traditionally been passed down to the person who embodies the spirit the most. The original purpose of the Green Jacket was to remind students and staff that the original purpose of the program was to have fun. Before the Green Jacket, evening activities were filled with lectures rather than fun events. The jacket contains numerous items that have been stored in the jacket by previous owners. One of the rules of the Green Jacket is that the owner cannot disclose any of the items that are in the jacket. However, SHP found out that the jacket contains a Barbie, a captains armband, some pins, burke bucks, and playing cards.
