IS THE CHAIR OPEN TO STUDENTS WHO DON’T HAVE SCIENTIFIC OR MEDICAL TRAINING?
In addition to physicians, pharmacists, veterinarians and PhDs in life sciences, we welcome all types of profiles, in particular engineers and graduates in the social sciences and humanities (literature, economics, law, etc.).
CAN YOU FOLLOW IN THE SAME TERM THE HEALTH SYSTEMS OPTION COURSES AND THE INNOVATION IN HEALTH OPTION COURSES?
Yes, the two options are complementary in terms of both topics and course schedules. Given the workload required from January to beginning of April (6 credits in all for both options), we recommend students not take any additional courses.
WHAT IS THE COURSE SCHEDULE FOR THE CHAIR?
Innovation in Health option : Wednesday (9 am to 4.15 pm) & Friday morning (9 am to 12 pm).
Health Systems option : Thursday (9 am to 4.15 pm) and Friday afternoon (1.15 pm to 4.15 pm).
Please note that some of these hours may change according to our lecturers' availabilities.
Companies presentation and networking sessions might be organised after these courses.
DOES THE CHAIR HELP YOU TO FIND AN INTERNSHIP, APPRENTICESHIP OR VIE CONTRACT?
Several companies presentations are organized each year.
Moreover, we receive many internship, apprenticeship and VIE contract offers which we send to our students.
A Yearbook is also prepared and sent to the Chair's Alumni and our partners.
HOW DO YOU APPLY TO THE CHAIR?
It’s simple: just apply on line on the MYESSEC site. You will have to fill an application form et also join your resume and a letter. Please make sure to submit your application before the deadline. If your application is selected, you will receive a proposed appointment for an interview. The jury consists on two people, including a senior manager from one of the partner companies and Karine Lamiraud.
WHAT IS THE ADMISSIONS RATIO?
Each year, we receive nearly 50 applications from ESSEC students (AST, ASC, MS, PhD and bBA) for each option; half of them are admitted in the chair. There are no admissions limits or quotas. We simply take the best profiles.
WHAT CRITERIA DO YOU USE TO EVALUATE APPLICANTS?
We evaluate the quality of their academic achievements, the breadth of their professional experience, and their international exposure. We look for applicants who are curious, hard workers, strongly motivated to enroll in the Chair, and with mature career plans.
MY MS TRIP TAKES PLACE DURING CHAIR CLASSES. WHAT SHOULD I DO?
You should consider this early on, before you apply. You must choose between the trip and applying to the Chair, where absences are not accepted.
ARE THE CHAIR COURSES ON TOP OF THE COURSES REQUIRED BY MY MS OR MIM PROGRAM?
No. They are included among the electives required to obtain your degree.
THE CHAIR CLASSES OVERLAP WITH MY OWN CLASSES (MS, GRANDE ÉCOLE, ETC.). WHICH ONES SHOULD BE GIVEN PRIORITY?
You alone can determine your personal priorities. The time you spend at ESSEC is very short, and you may encounter many interesting opportunities, necessarily requiring you to make choices. Once you are admitted to the Chair, you must sign a “Charter of Class Behavior” in which you commit to attending 100% of the Chair classes (including the Hackathon). This personal commitment seals your official enrollment in the Chair. We will then contact your program director to formalize your participation and organize your presence in the Chair.
MY ENGLISH SKILLS AREN’T STRONG. WHAT ARE MY CHANCES?
English should not be an obstacle to classroom interactions. Language is not intrinsically a disqualifying factor. However, the entire innovation in health option (courses, presentations, reports) is in English. A good level of oral and written comprehension is expected.
If your English skills are too weak, choose the Health Systems option instead, whose courses are given in French.
MAY I ATTEND CLASSES WITHOUT BEING OFFICIALLY ADMITTED TO THE CHAIR?
Chair classes are exclusively reserved for students who passed the selection procedure. On special occasions, some conferences may welcome an external audience upon invitation.
