Scenario: I am not getting sound from my Promethean. The sound is coming out of my laptop. I go to Windows setting/sounds and the Promethean speakers are not there for me to choose.
Try This:
Keep Promethean board turned ON
Unplug the Promethean HDMI cable from the laptop
Restart the laptop (completely shut it down)
Restart the laptop
Login to the laptop and wait about 30 seconds for everything to load. Wait until you see the Active Manager icon show up on the desktop (Promethean software)
Plug HDMI cable back into the laptop
Scenario: I am trying to download files from the internet and I keep getting an error message pop-up in the lower right-hand corner that says my disk space is full.
Try this: You need to clear your Chromebook's cache, cookies, history, etc. Click HERE to learn how.
Scenario: You are using Google Meet from your classroom laptop and your microphone is unmuted within Meet but your students are reporting that they can still not hear you.
Try this: Double check that the microphone mute button on the laptop itself is not turned on. The mute key is located on the top row of the laptop keyboard to the right of the volume controls (see image below). If it is turned on (muted) there will be a tiny orange light on the key itself (see pic below). To unmute, you need to click the Function key (Fn) in the lower-left corner of the keyboard at the same time you hit the mute mic button. The orange light should be off (not visible).
Scenario: The ESM bookmarks folder (that holds shortcuts to WeVideo, Tap Apps, etc.) that is normally located in the far left corner of the Chrome browser is no longer there. How do I bring it back?
Try this: Right-click in any white space of your bookmarks bar. A menu will open and from the menu click the "Show ESM" option at the bottom.
Scenario: You or your students are trying to login to a Chromebook and it keeps saying the password is incorrect or can't be verified.
Do this: Double check that the keyboard has not been changed to international or Arabic by mistake. If you hover in the lower right-hand corner of the Chromebook the tray/taskbar will pop-up showing you what input method your keyboard is using. It should be US (not INTL or AR). To change it, click anywhere in the lower-right hand corner by the clock and battery and a menu will open. Click on the Keyboard Settings button and choose US from the options.
Scenario: Where did the menu bar go? You or your students open a document, slideshow, etc., and the menu bar (File, Edit, View...) is gone.
Do this: There is a "Hide the Menu Bar" button located in the very upper right-hand corner of the application's toolbar. It looks like the carrot symbol ^. Click the button and your menu bar will be visible again. Or, use the keyboard command: ctrl + shift + f
Scenario: All of a sudden frequently used Google Edu tools and other web tools are not displaying correctly or are just appearing and functioning differently than normal. What's up?
Do this: Many times a simple update of the Chrome browser is all it takes to fix the bug/glitch. If you or your students do not routinely shut your Chromebook completely down (power it off), you could be missing crucial updates. You can check for updates by doing the following:
If there is an update pending, you should have received a notification. On your Chromebook, notifications appear in the lower right-hand corner of the Chromebook shelf (by the clock, battery, etc.). Look for a number inside a circle that you click on to open the notification message.
or
You can also manually check for updates. An update may have just been released but it has yet been pushed out by Google. To manually check for updates, do the following:
Open your Chrome Browser
Click the three stacked dots in the upper-right hand corner
Select Settings from the menu
From the menu on the left hand side, click the About Chrome OS link at the bottom
From the the middle of the page, click the links that says Chrome OS Settings
Chrome will check to see if you are upto date. If you are it will say so. If you are not, it will start updating. Once the update reaches 100% you will need to restart the Chromebook.
