Google Sites is a FREE collaborative tool that is super simple to use to create websites. Its so simple, even elementary students could create a website. Google Sites integrates with Google Drive so you can easily embed files for a polished final look. Its' "insert and click" method of adding content makes it seamless to add preformatted layouts to hold files, text, images, videos, calendars, and more.
There are many different ways you can use Google Sites with your students. Check out the list below for inspiration:
Digital Portfolios: Google Sites can be used by students to create digital portfolios featuring their best works and accomplishments. Encourage high school students to develop a digital portfolio that they can share with university admissions officers. Teachers should also consider developing a digital portfolio of their best lesson plans, credentials, and references to include when they apply for teaching positions or graduate programs.
Digital Units of Study: Google Sites is a great tool to use for digital units of study. Packaging them in a site allows for easy updating and sharing of resources and ideas. Adding separate pages for individual lessons with directions, embedded videos, documents from your drive, resource links, and more is super simple.
HyperDocs: Google Sites is a great choice when creating HyperDocs. Easily add all the links and teaching resources your students need to complete the lesson. Here is an example Novel HyperDoc for "The Wild Robot".
Supplement Google Classroom: Use subpages in Google Sites to package content for your students. The website link can be added to an assignment in Google Classroom for students to easily reference during their work.
Digital Escape/Breakout Rooms: Students love digital breakout rooms. They are an engaging activity to do as an introduction to a lesson, for review, or as a wrap-up activity. Check out the Digital Breakouts page on the ESM Tech Hub for more information.
Google's Applied Digital Skills curriculum provides tons of FREE instructional videos that teach students to collaborate using digital skills. You can search their curriculum by the audience, digital tool or topic.
