his book study engages math leaders in exploring Transforming Teaching through Curriculum-Based Professional Learning by James B. Short and Stephanie Hirsh. Participants will examine the shifts in practice needed to implement curriculum-based professional learning (CBPL) and reflect on how these apply in their own contexts. Together, we will unpack the core, structural, and functional design features of CBPL, clarify the roles of leaders, coaches, and teachers, and analyze current practices to identify strengths and opportunities for growth aligned with high-quality instructional materials and sustainable systems.
Note: While the book addresses curriculum-based professional learning across subject areas, this study will focus specifically on mathematics teaching and learning.
The book is available through INFOhio at this link or on Amazon.

NCTM’s Principles to Actions connects research-based teaching practices and core principles to offer guidance on building a successful mathematics program, including the eight effective math teaching practices. This session will examine the eight practices and how they support high-quality math instruction at all levels. Participants will explore the research behind each practice, analyze how these practices are reflected in their curriculum and instruction, and consider strategies for implementation.
A focused portion of this session will be differentiated, allowing teachers to concentrate on understanding the purpose of each practice, identifying where they appear in their curriculum, and exploring ways to modify instruction to ensure all students engage with grade-level mathematics. Leaders will use this time to assess implementation across classrooms, identify supports needed, and refine walkthrough tools with clear, observable look-fors to guide coaching, professional learning, and feedback.
