Alternative Certification Program

Region 14 ESC offers many different alternative certification programs and has been involved in alternative certification since the late 1980's.  We offer a face-paced learning environment that is taught by practicing professionals, therefore, bringing you the most up-to-date training available.

Teacher Certification

Region 14, which has been involved in alternative certification since 1988, offers a teacher certification program for individuals who have a bachelor’s degree from any accredited university.  Region 14’s alternative certification program is an intensive, fast-paced program for highly motivated candidates. 

Principal Alternative Certification

The Region 14 ESC Principal Alternative Certification Program (PACP) is an intensive one-year preparation program for aspiring principals.  It provides an opportunity for individuals who have a master’s degree to participate in an intensive, comprehensive program leading to principal certification.  The program is designed only for highly committed candidates who can excel in a fast-paced training environment. 


Superintendent Certification

The Region 14 ESC Superintendent Alternative Certification Program (SACP) is a one-year preparation program for aspiring superintendents. It provides an opportunity for individuals who have mid-management or principal's certification to participate in an intensive, comprehensive program leading to superintendent certification. The program is designed only for highly committed candidates who are able to excel in a fast-paced training environment. 

Master of Education with Texas Principal Certification

What makes our Masters of Education Degree program different...

HUMAN CONTACT!

We value the contact that you make in person through face-to-face class meetings. A portion of the masters degree program will consist of direct contact with your professors. We are teamed up with Sul Ross State University for our masters degree.  These classes will meet at Region 14 ESC South in Abilene.  You will never have to travel to Alpine for a class.  The entire program is designed with teachers in mind so that your school work will not interfere with your employment.  Our masters program is a 33 hour program.

NO GRE REQUIRED!!!

Associate's Degree in Child Development

Region 14 ESC in collaboration with Cisco College offers an opportunity for educational aides to earn an associate's degree in child development while continuing to work. Participants selected will receive reduced tuition. Classes will meet at nights and on weekends. 

All classes will be held at Region 14 South at 4300 S. Treadaway, Abilene, TX.  79602  

Enrollment is limited.  Participants will be selected from a committee.

Information Required by Texas Education Code 21.044

Each educator preparation program must provide information regarding: (1) the skills that educators are required to possess, the responsibilities that educators are required to accept, and the high expectations for students in this state; (2) the effect of supply and demand forces on the educator workforce in this state

Information Required by TEC 21.044 (g) (1) and (2)

Texas Education Code  §227.1. General Provisions.

(b)(1) pursuant to the Texas Education Code (TEC), §22.083, candidates must undergo a criminal history background check prior to employment as an educator; and (2) pursuant to the TEC, §22.0835, candidates must undergo a criminal history background check prior to clinical teaching.

Further, the EPP shall notify each applicant of

(d)(1)the potential ineligibility of an individual who has been convicted of an offense for issuance of a certificate on completion of the EPP, and (2) the current State Board for Educator Certification (SBEC) rules prescribed in §249.16 of this title (relating to Eligibility of Persons with Criminal History for a Certificate under Texas Occupations Code, Chapter 53, and Texas Education Code, Chapter 21); and (3) the right to request a criminal history evaluation letter as provided in Chapter 227, Subchapter B, of this title (relating to Preliminary Evaluation of Certification Eligibility).
